My 'recipe' is the same all they way... EXCEPT that it says I can replace the citric acid with 2 packages of non-sweetened powdered drink mix in LEMON flavor (like Kool-Aid, but Wal-mart's 'Best Value?' costs just 10-cents a package). It's been working great for me, but we have a water softener. I don't kow if it would work the same with hard water. I LIKE your postings a lot. The cabbage is almost ready, and the other two are pretty much done. I learned broccoli is tricky. If it gets too hot it will not do well. I plan to start more from seed and try again towards fall. I am going to try and attempt to extend the growing season with a cold frame I have.Country girl in the cityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12772649827238346981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2347362716037437223.post-44251361098477043402011-06-25T20:54:55.061-05:002011-06-25T20:54:55.061-05:00Wow! I would further add...Very good blog entry, Melissa! I would further add, that something doesn't have to be certified organic to be worthy of consumption. The lady I buy chicken and beef from did not go to the paperwork and expense of having her product stamped "organic", but I trust her. I trust that what she feeds her animals is what she really feeds them. So, I buy it from her. To me, buying local and knowing where the food is coming from weighs heavier than whether the product says it is organic or not.

One other comment I would make, ok, two comments, is: for one thing, don't forget the "dirty dozen". If you only have so much money to concentrate towards organic foods, prioritize the ones that are the most highly pesticide ridden, such as coffee, & strawberries, etc. You can find the list by doing a web search.

LASTLY, I would say that when I was in a food buying club, I saw a lot of people buying a lot of stuff because it said it was "natural" or "organic". Junk food is junk food, no matter how you cut it. The natural food manufacturers kind of depend on us buying into all that package food junk just like the conventional food manufacturers do. At the end of the day, eating a bag of corn chips, whether organic or not, is probably not a good idea, for a variety of reasons.Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06397589756984157420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2347362716037437223.post-90266072710239484912010-05-13T21:12:58.757-05:002010-05-13T21:12:58.757-05:00I almost started crying when I read this.
